Introducing a Trickster Co x Barnacle Foods collaboration! Crystal Worl, co-founder of Trickster Co, had the pleasure of partnering with Barnacle Foods to make this sweet, smoky, salty, and deeply satisfying kelp seasoning (think next-level blackened seasoning).
Together, we dreamed up this kelp-infused seasoning, inspired by the flavors and traditions of the Alaska Coast. Beachside fires and rich billowing smokehouse steam, salty sea, with a hint of sweet. Rub or sprinkle on seafood, meats, vegetables, or even popcorn. For best results: drizzle oil, then coat and rub your foods with a generous layer of seasoning, then sear over flames or sizzle in a pan at medium-high heat.
Crystal's design on the label depicts sockeye salmon, bears, and Raven running in Northwest Coast Formline design, an art form dating back some 4,000 years. Every year Crystal goes fishing at a secret spot and brings home enough Sockeye salmon for the family. It's always an adventure fishing side-by-side with bears that try to steal your fish, almost being washed away in rapids, and trying to get to the best fishing spots before anyone else. The fish she brings home provide for multiple households each winter. Now, salmon has found its perfect match — Sweet & Smoky Kelp Seasoning.
Barnacle Foods is based out of Juneau and makes foods out of Alaska-grown and harvested kelp and other regional ingredients. They set out to share the flavors and stories of the Alaska coast, and do it in a way that is good for our oceans, communities, and collective future. They rely on a healthy environment and serve as stewards of these important ecosystems, so they thrive for generations to come.
